Motocross Boots

Motocross boots are not just tall, stiff shoes. They're an engineered system of plastic, leather, steel and foam designed to do one job: absorb everything a foot peg, rock, or crash impact can throw at you while still letting you brake, shift, and stand on the pegs naturally. A proper MX boot wraps around your shin, locks your ankle into a controlled range of motion, and stays rigid through a full-grown rider's weight landing from a jump — and a cheap one falls apart in a season. What's in this category You'll find full-height MX race boots, slightly more flexible enduro and trail boots, lightweight short boots for technical riding, and youth sizes scaled down with the same protective construction. Most models in our range feature steel toe boxes, replaceable shin plates and soles, leather inner panels for grip on the bike, and weatherproofing for wet rides. How to choose motocross boots Match the boot to the riding. Pure MX racers want maximum rigidity — straight forward/back ankle flex, no side-to-side movement, very stiff sole. Enduro and trail riders need more flex for walking sections, more ankle articulation for technical climbs, and softer soles for foot-down moments. Adventure or dual-sport riders trade some protection for comfort during long days in the saddle. Fit matters enormously — pull the boot on with a thick MX sock and stand up. Your toes should brush the front when standing flat, lift away when you flex forward. Closures should snug down without crushing your shin; modern boots use buckle ratchets with progressive tightening so you can fine-tune the fit. Break new boots in over 2–3 short rides before a long day — they'll mould to your foot shape. Frequently asked questions about Boots

How do I break in new motocross boots?

Wear them around the house for an hour or two to start, then take them on two or three short rides (30-45 minutes) before any long day. The inner leather and foam will mould to your foot shape and the plastic outer shell will become slightly more forgiving. Brand-new boots straight onto a 4-hour ride is how you get blisters.

What size motocross boot should I order?

Most MX boots run true to your street shoe size, but always check the brand chart — Italian and European brands often number their sizes differently. With a thick MX sock on, your toes should brush the front of the boot when standing flat, and lift away from the front when you flex into a riding position.

How long do motocross boots last?

Two to four seasons for most riders. The wear points are the inner ankle panels (from gripping the bike), the sole (from foot-down moments), and the buckles. Many premium boots can be re-soled by the manufacturer or a specialist cobbler, doubling the useful life of the upper.

Can motocross boots be re-soled?

Yes, for most premium-tier brands (Alpinestars, Sidi, Gaerne, Fox Instinct, Forma). Lower-tier boots usually have soles bonded directly to the shell and cannot be re-soled. If you buy expensive boots, factor in re-soling at year 2-3 to extend their useful life by another couple of years.

Do I need different boots for enduro versus pure motocross?

Ideally yes. MX boots are stiffer and very upright — designed for jumps and impacts. Enduro boots are slightly more flexible, with softer soles, more ankle articulation, and waterproofing — designed for technical riding where you have to put a foot down and walk sections. If you only buy one pair and ride both disciplines, lean enduro.
