Frequently asked questions about Boots
How do I break in new motocross boots?
Wear them around the house for an hour or two to start, then take them on two or three short rides (30-45 minutes) before any long day. The inner leather and foam will mould to your foot shape and the plastic outer shell will become slightly more forgiving. Brand-new boots straight onto a 4-hour ride is how you get blisters.
What size motocross boot should I order?
Most MX boots run true to your street shoe size, but always check the brand chart — Italian and European brands often number their sizes differently. With a thick MX sock on, your toes should brush the front of the boot when standing flat, and lift away from the front when you flex into a riding position.
How long do motocross boots last?
Two to four seasons for most riders. The wear points are the inner ankle panels (from gripping the bike), the sole (from foot-down moments), and the buckles. Many premium boots can be re-soled by the manufacturer or a specialist cobbler, doubling the useful life of the upper.
Can motocross boots be re-soled?
Yes, for most premium-tier brands (Alpinestars, Sidi, Gaerne, Fox Instinct, Forma). Lower-tier boots usually have soles bonded directly to the shell and cannot be re-soled. If you buy expensive boots, factor in re-soling at year 2-3 to extend their useful life by another couple of years.
Do I need different boots for enduro versus pure motocross?
Ideally yes. MX boots are stiffer and very upright — designed for jumps and impacts. Enduro boots are slightly more flexible, with softer soles, more ankle articulation, and waterproofing — designed for technical riding where you have to put a foot down and walk sections. If you only buy one pair and ride both disciplines, lean enduro.
